Let's celebrate food!

I love food.

And, really, who doesn’t? It’s the crux for social events and gatherings. It’s the currency of culture and it provides us a very tangible manifestation of ethnicity. It’s a metaphor for the unspoken, an expression of affection and determines the significance of the occasion it is being served in. It’s what connects you to your family’s past, to your people’s heritage and to whatever and wherever you call home. It’s tradition. It’s part of your daily ritual. It’s what makes you go. And despite the myriad flavors and shapes and colors it comes in, it’s one of those things that we all have in common. And best of all? It’s tasty as hell.

I mean, come on. It’s food.

quiche fixin's!

So, yes. Blog.

This is a blog, sure, but, really, it’s a celebration. Way of The Spatula is meant to be a repository for all things related to the preparation and subsequent enjoyment of food. In time, it will be full of recipes, food photography (*cough*food pornography*cough*), notions, ideas, experiments, techniques, reviews, discussion, whatever.. bits and pieces of whatever, in fact, testifying to this furious fandom of food that we find ourselves fanatically afflicted with (can we say alliteration combo?). Combine that with sarcasm, irreverence, the occasional typo and quite possibly casual swearing, and you have this blog. It should be a fun ride.

Now, hopefully other contributors will get on board and together we can all celebrate food. And sure, we’d be doing this among ourselves, but it’s my hope that this celebration wouldn’t be limited to just the writers of Way of The Spatula but with whomever else happens upon this here blog and reads our words and salivates at our photography and tries out our ideas. Because, really, if we have learned anything from our tireless adventures in the kitchen, it’s that cooking and eating aren’t the absolute best things you can do with food.

No.

The best thing you can do with food (and, hell, anything related to food) is to share it.

So, hooray for food. Hooray for food indeed.
